The Pittsburgh Evidence Response Team (ERT) is made up of FBI personnel located in Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Each member of the team has received specialized training in crime scene management as well as crime scene forensics. The team routinely responds to federal crime scenes in the Pittsburgh Division's territory. It has also been called upon to respond to terrorist acts across the country including the September 11 attacks. When requested, ERT assists local law enforcement departments. ERT provides expertise, manpower and specialized equipment that is not always available to local departments. Pittsburgh ERT also trains with state and local law enforcement departments on wide-ranging topics including crime scene management, crime scene forensic techniques, and interagency cooperation in the event of a large scale terrorist event.

West Virginia Joint Terrorism Task
Force
Pittsburgh Division Squad 14 was established in March 2003, to address all Terrorism and Foreign Counterintelligence matters within the entire State of West Virginia. Within Pittsburgh Division Squad 14 is a functioning Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) known as the West Virginia (WV)JTTF. The primary mission of Pittsburgh Squad 14 is to detect and neutralize any terrorist activity in the State of West Virginia and to investigate terrorist acts carried out by groups or organizations which fall within the definition of terrorist groups as set forth in the current United States Attorney General Guidelines. The secondary mission of Pittsburgh Squad 14 is to detect and neutralize any Foreign Intelligence operations against the United States that are occurring in or have a nexus to the State of West Virginia.
Pittsburgh Squad 14 is unique in that its
personnel are located in five separate locations within the State of West
Virginia. The main office of Pittsburgh Squad 14 is housed in the
Criminal Justice Information Services Division Satellite II facility in
Fairmont, West Virginia. Other Pittsburgh Squad 14 personnel are
located in the Martinsburg, Charleston, Huntington and Parkersburg, West
Virginia FBI Resident Agency Office space. The WVJTTF is comprised
of representatives from the FBI, United States Attorney's Offices for the
Northern and Southern Districts of West Virginia, West Virginia State
Police, Wheeling Police Department, Harrison County Sheriff's Department,
West Virginia Fire Marshals Office, United States Postal Service,
Parkersburg Police Department, and Vienna Police Department

Huntington
Violent Crime/Drug Task Force
The Huntington Violent Crime/Drug Task Force is an FBI led Safe Streets initiative which was formed twelve years ago to address drug trafficking and violent crime matters in Huntington and surrounding areas. The Task Force is comprised of officers from the Huntington and Barboursville Police Departments, the Cabell County Sheriff's Department, the West Virginia State Police and the FBI. Task Force personnel work closely with the officers of member agencies as well as other law enforcement officials to dismantle and disrupt significant drug enterprises that use violence to further their illegal activity. Other Federal agencies such as ATF, IRS and DEA work closely with Task Force Officers to use Firearms and Tax statutes as well as asset forfeiture to maximum advantage. The United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of West Virginia as well as the Cabell County Prosecutor's Office are also valued partners in the Task Force's effort to successfully prosecute these enterprises. Charleston Area Gang Enforcement Team The Charleston Area Gang Enforcement Team is a newly formed FBI Safe Streets initiative which is designed to address the growing problem of violent street gangs in Charleston and surrounding areas of Kanawha County. A number of these violent enterprises have been identified and a many have connections to nationally based criminal street gangs. Pittsburgh Joint Terrorism Task Force Through a cooperative effort of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies the Pittsburgh Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) will: 1. Prevent acts of international and domestic terrorism through disruption, dismantlement and prosecution. 2. Maintain an effective intelligence network to identify terrorism subjects and activities. 3. Foster interagency relations to protect the community 4. Train JTTF members to identify and investigate international and domestic terrorism. The Pittsburgh Division encompasses 25 counties in Western Pennsylvania (PA) and the state of West Virginia. In 1999, the Pittsburgh JTTF was formed to address incidents involving domestic and international terrorism. In 2003, an annex of the Pittsburgh JTTF was formed in West Virginia and a second annex, located in Erie, PA, was formed in 2004 to address border and waterway incidents involving terrorism. Members of the JTTF include representatives from federal agencies including the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Internal Revenue Service (IRS), U.S. Secret Service, Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF), Federal Air Marshals, and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. State and local representatives include the Office of the Attorney General for Pennsylvania (PA), PA State Police, West Virginia State Police, West Virginia Fire Marshall, Allegheny County Police Department, Erie Police Department, Allegheny County Sheriff's Office, Pittsburgh Police Department, Cory Police Department, Wheeling Police Department, Harrison County Sheriff's Department, Vienna Police Department, and the Parkersburg Police Department. Close coordination with the U.S. Attorney's Office (USAO) for Western PA along with the USAOs in the Northern and Southern Districts of West Virginia continues. |

High Tech Computer Crimes Task Force
The Pittsburgh High Tech Task Force recognizes the dynamic and global
threat of cyber crime. As a unit of consolidated federal, state, and
local law enforcement, the task force was created with the purpose of
pooling technical and investigative resources trained in computer
technology and cyber crime in order to advance the mission of all law
enforcement agencies.
Our mission is to provide forensic examination, intelligence, and
technical assistance to agencies encountering computers during the course
of their investigations.

Greater
Pittsburgh Safe Streets Task
Force
The Greater Pittsburgh Safe Streets Task Force (GPSSTF) is comprised of representatives from the FBI, Allegheny County District Attorney's Office, Allegheny County Sheriff's Office, Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, and the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police. The mission of the GPSSTF is to identify and target for prosecution: criminal enterprises that have committed acts of violence, including homicide, robbery, and drug offenses in furtherance of their organizations; criminal enterprises engaged in interstate thefts, particularly with the use of violence; and persons who have fled interstate in order to avoid prosecution for these criminal acts. The current focus of the GPSSTF is to address gang activity in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
