FBI JOB OPPORTUNITIES The
FBI offers two basic types of positions:
Special Agent and Professional Support.
Special Agents are armed federal law enforcement officers with
powers of arrest who investigate alleged violations of
federal laws that fall within the FBI's jurisdiction.
Special Agents are also have the primary responsibility of insuring
the FBI's #1 priority is met: preventing
the next terrorist attack on the SPECIAL AGENT CRITICAL SKILLS CRITERIA In order to be considered for the Special Agent position, an applicant must be between the ages of 23 and 36, be a US citizen, be in good health and physical condition and be able to pass a drug screening test, polygraph examination and thorough background investigation. Applicants must also possess one or more of the following "critical skills:" Computer Science Possession of a computer or information technology related degree, a degree in Electrical Engineering, or a degree in another field in addition to certification as a CISCO Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or CISCO Certified Internet Working Expert (CCIE). If the applicant meets this education or certification requirement, the three year professional work experience can be waived. An applicant may also qualify who has any four-year degree and three years full-time professional work experience (with at least two years full-time work experience with substantial computer expertise). This does not include candidates who use Microsoft Office or other word processing programs nor those who merely design web content or use application software in connection with their employment. A person (with a non-CS/IT degree) who manages a corporate network, installs and maintains server operating systems, establishes and maintains an Internet Service Provider, maintains and monitors performance on TCP/IP or other protocol network, or maintains and performance tunes servers or Internet Information Services, would qualify as possessing substantial relevant work experience. An evaluation of the depth of computer expertise demonstrated by the applicant during the two years of full-time qualifying experience must be made to determine if it requires substantial technological expertise. Physical Science Possession of a degree in a physical science (chemistry, biology, physics, nursing, forensics, medical specialties, etc.) and have three years full-time professional work experience (in any field). Engineering Possession of a degree in a traditional engineering field (including architecture and mathematics) and have three years full-time professional work experience (in any field). Critical Foreign Language Possession of a four-year degree in any field and demonstration of native proficiency in a foreign language deemed critical by the FBI as demonstrated by passing both the listening and reading portions of the Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT) and achieving a proficiency of 3 or higher on the Speaking Proficiency Test (SPT); or possession of a four-year degree and another critical skill and achieving at least a 2+ on the SPT. (FY 2005 Critical Languages: Arabic, Farsi, Pashto, Punjabi, Hindi, Spanish, Urdu, Russian, Chinese (all dialects), Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean, and Hebrew). Professional work experience can be waived under this program. Intelligence Possession of a four year degree in any field and a minimum of three years full-time professional work experience, two years of which must be full-time work experience in an intelligence area. Those areas include intelligence, foreign counterintelligence, and counterterrorism. The two years experience may include periods of training concentrating on intelligence. Full- time work as an Intelligence Analyst/Specialist or FBI Investigative Specialist. Possession of a four- year degree in International Relations, International Finance, or a closely related field also qualifies . Accounting/Finance Certification as a CPA (work experience is waived) or possession of a degree in accounting or related degree that includes a minimum of 24 hours accounting and six hours of business law or other elective business courses. Candidates need three years full-time professional work experience (with a minimum of two years full-time progressively more responsible accounting experience). (Working as a bookkeeper, financial data entry clerk, etc. would not qualify.) Law/Law Enforcement/Military Possession of a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school or possession of a four-year degree in any field and have at least two years full-time experience in the military or at least two years full-time investigative experience in a law enforcement agency.For complete information and/or applications, please visit WWW.FBIJOBS.GOV
