Philadelphia Man Sentenced to Six Years in Prison for Robbing Johnstown Bank

United States Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan announced today, September 28, 2009, that George Douglas Alston, a resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was sentenced in federal court in Johnstown to 72 months in prison and three years supervised release on his conviction of bank robbery.

United States District Judge Kim R. Gibson imposed the sentence on Alston, age 43.

According to information presented to the court by Assistant United States Attorney Stephanie L. Haines, Alston robbed the First Commonwealth Bank located at 217 Franklin Street, Johnstown, Pennsylvania, on February 13, 2008.

Ms. Buchanan commended the Southwest Pennsylvania Safe Streets Task Force, which is comprised of law enforcement officers from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Cambria County Drug Task Force, Johnstown Police Department, Pennsylvania State Police, Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office and the Richland Township Police Department, for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Alston.
