Huntington Drug Dealer Sentenced to Five Years in Prison

HUNTINGTON, WV—A Huntington woman was sentenced today to 60 months in prison for possession with intent to distribute cocaine base. Lowantha Calloway, 46, previously pled guilty to the drug charge in July 2009. According to court records, on November 4, 2008, Calloway was stopped by an officer with the Huntington Police Department near her residence. Calloway admitted she possessed seven individual packages of crack cocaine with the intent to distribute the drug. The execution of a state search warrant of Calloway's residence revealed marijuana, 7.4 grams of crack cocaine, three firearms, three boxes of ammunition, four digital scales and $27,099 in cash. Calloway subsequently admitted she had been selling crack cocaine in the Huntington area for the previous five or six months.

United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers presided over the proceedings. The Huntington Police Department, Huntington Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation jointly conducted the investigation. The prosecution was handled by Assistant United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston.
