USP Hazelton Inmate Convicted
on Charges Relating to an Assault of Another Inmate
CLARKSBURG, WV—A 48-year-old federal inmate was convicted by a Federal Trial Jury on September 17, 2009, in United States District Court in Clarksburg before Judge Irene M. Keeley.
United States Attorney Sharon L. Potter announced that ANDRE GANEOUS was convicted on charges contained in a two-count Indictment. Specifically, GANEOUS was convicted on one count of maiming and disfiguring another inmate by throwing a scalding liquid containing water and a caustic substance on the inmate on October 7, 2008, at UPS Hazelton; and one count of assault with a dangerous weapon with the intent to do bodily harm on October 7, 2008, at USP Hazelton.
GANEOUS, who is in federal custody, faces a maximum penalty of 20 years' imprisonment and a fine of $250,000 on the maiming charge; and a maximum penalty of 10 years' imprisonment and a fine of $250,000 on the assault charge.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David E. Godwin. The case was investigated by the Special Investigative Services at USP Hazelton and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
