MONESSEN MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO POSSESSING ILLEGAL FIREARM

United States Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan announced today, August 6, 2008, that Marvin Jordan, a resident of Monessen, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty in federal court to a charge of violating federal firearms laws.

Jordan, age 27, pleaded guilty to one count before United States District Judge David S. Cercone.

In connection with the guilty plea, Assistant United States Attorney Almon S. Burke, Jr. advised the court that on February 19, 2005, Jordan possessed a firearm, namely, a .380 caliber AMT handgun, with an obliterated serial number.

Judge Cercone scheduled sentencing for November 6, 2008. The law provides for a total sentence of five (5) years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed is based upon the seriousness of the offense and the criminal history, if any, of the defendant.

Pending sentencing, the court ordered that Jordon remain in custody.

According to Ms. Buchanan, this case is being prosecuted as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a collaborative effort by federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, prosecutors and communities to prevent, deter and prosecute gun crime.

The Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Jeannette Police Department conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Jordon.
