PHILADELPHIA MAN GETS 10-YEAR PRISON TERM FOR DRUG LAW VIOLATIONS

United States Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan announced today, July 22, 2008, that Maurice R. Cheatham, a resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced in federal court in Johnstown to 120 months in prison, and five years supervised release on his conviction of violating federal narcotics laws.

United States District Judge Kim R. Gibson imposed sentence on Cheatham, age 23.

According to information presented to the court by  Assistant United States Attorney Stephanie L. Haines, from May 4, 2004, to December 6, 2005, Cheatham conspired with other co-defendants to distribute and possess with intent to distribute more than 50 grams of cocaine base and more than 500 grams of cocaine.

Ms. Buchanan commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Laurel Highlands Resident Agency, the Cambria County Drug Task Force, and the Johnstown Police Department for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Cheatham.
