In matters prosecuted by the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia:

HUNTINGTON MAN SENTENCED TO FIVE YEARS IN PRISON FOR TRANSPORTING STOLEN VEHICLES FROM WEST VIRGINIA TO KENTUCKY

HUNTINGTON, WV – DAVID DEAN BUZZARD, JR., 27, of Huntington, WV, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers to 60 months in prison for conspiracy to transport stolen motor vehicles in interstate commerce. BUZZARD previously pled guilty to a one-count Information in February 2008, admitting to the charge.

The conviction stems from a joint investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Huntington Police Department, Cabell County Sheriff's Department, and the Greenup County, Kentucky Sheriff's Department. Beginning on July 29, 2007, and continuing through August 9, 2007, BUZZARD and other individuals forcibly broke into several car dealerships, stole numerous vehicles, and drove the stolen vehicles to Greenup County, Kentucky where they were later sold. BUZZARD and his accomplices broke into Dutch Miller Kia in Barboursville, WV, R. F. Steiner's Sales in Huntington, WV, and C&O's in St. Albans, WV. Several vehicles were stolen including: a 2006 Chevy Truck; 2005 Dodge Truck; 2007 GMC Denali; 2007 GMC Sierra; 2007 GMC Yukon XL; 2004 Nissan Endurance; 2008 Chevy Equinox LT; and a 2008 Chevy Equinox LS.

Assistant United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston handled the prosecution.
