United States Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan announced today, May 8, 2008, that Jerry A. Pratt of Brentwood, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced in federal court in Pittsburgh to three years of probation, including four months of home detention, on a charge of impersonating a federal officer. United States District Judge David S. Cercone imposed the sentence on Pratt, age 34. According to information presented to the court by Assistant United States Attorney Stephen R. Kaufman, on December 19 and 20, 2006, Pratt impersonated an Assistant United States Attorney. Pratt, who was attempting to obtain a promotion at his employer, placed telephone calls in the guise of an Assistant United States Attorney, falsely claiming that he had a clean criminal record. Ms. Buchanan commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Jerry A. Pratt.
