PITTSBURGH MAN SENTENCED TO 13 MONTHS IN PRISON FOR FRAUD SCHEME

United States Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan announced today, April 10, 2008, that Jeffrey Chambers, a resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced in federal court in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to thirteen months of incarceration and three years of supervised release on his conviction of Conspiracy to Commit Mail Fraud and Access Device Fraud.

Senior United States District Judge Alan N. Bloch imposed the sentence on Chambers, age 51.

According to information presented to the court by Assistant United States Attorney Brendan T. Conway, Chambers participated in a conspiracy in which he fraudulently obtained the identification information of numerous individuals, and, using the fraudulently obtained identification information, submitted fraudulent change of address forms for at least four of those individuals without their knowledge or approval.  These change of address forms directed the forwarding of the victims' mail to the address of a co-conspirator in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  The co-conspirator then used information from the mailings to obtain credit cards fraudulently, and to otherwise gain access to the victims' accounts.

Ms. Buchanan commended the Financial Crimes Task Force of Southwestern Pennsylvania for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Chambers.  The Financial Crimes Task Force of Southwestern Pennsylvania is comprised of United States Postal Inspectors, Special Agents of the United States Secret Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Investigators from the Allegheny County District Attorney's Office, and Detectives from Allegheny County and the City of Pittsburgh.
