PITTSBURGH MAN PLEADS GUILTY IN FRAUD SCHEME

United States Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan announced today, March 14, 2008, that Robert Moore, a resident of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty in federal court to one count of use of Unauthorized Access Devices, in violation of 18 United States Code Section 1029(a)(2).

Moore, age 47, pleaded guilty to an Information before United States District Judge Arthur Schwab.

In connection with the guilty plea, Assistant United States Attorney Gregory C. Melucci advised the court that Moore unlawfully used the means of identification of another person to open lines of credit to purchase and attempt to purchase merchandise from department stores such as Neiman Marcus and others.

Judge Arthur Schwab scheduled sentencing for July 11, 2008.  The law provides for a total sentence of 10 years in prison, a fine of $250,000.00, or both.  Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed is based upon the seriousness of the offense and the criminal history, if any, of the defendant.

The Financial Crimes Task Force of Southwestern Pennsylvania conducted the investigation into this case.  The Financial Crimes Task Force of Southwestern Pennsylvania is comprised of United States Postal Inspectors, Special Agents of the United States Secret Service, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Investigators from the Allegheny County District Attorney's Office, and Detectives from Allegheny County and the City of Pittsburgh.
