United States Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan announced today, March 28, 2008, that Iain Martin Allen, a resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty in federal court to violating federal narcotics and firearms laws. Allen, age 32, pleaded guilty to six counts before United States District Judge Arthur J. Schwab. In connection with the guilty plea, Assistant United States Attorney Linda L. Kelly advised the court that Allen, a convicted felon, sold firearms on five occasions and sold cocaine to an individual who was cooperating with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Judge Schwab scheduled sentencing for June 13, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. The law provides for a total sentence of not more than 100 years in prison, a fine of $4,000,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed is based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the criminal history, if any, of the defendant. Pending sentencing, the court ordered the defendant shall continue to be detained. The Federal Bureau of Investigation, City of Pittsburgh Police, and Scott Township Police Department conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Allen.
